T55 Gas Turbine Engine
Lycoming Engines, Honeywell Aerospace
This gas turbine engine design is a scaled up version of the T53 turboshaft and produces more than three times the shaft horsepower of its predecessor. The T55 turboshaft also came out of the Lycoming Turbine Engine Division in Stratford, Connecticut, and has operated for over 60 years. Developed by Dr. Anselm Franz, creator of the WWII Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet, the T55 powers the CH-47 Chinook and is currently produced by Honeywell Aerospace.
