
AGT1500 Gas Turbine Engine

This gas turbine engine was first designed for helicopters, but was later reconfigured for the M1 Abrams Tanks. The AGT1500 is part of the T53 turboshaft family and as its name designates produces 1500 shaft horsepower. This engine also came out of the Lycoming Turbine Engine Division in Stratford, Connecticut, and has been in service for over forty years. Developed by Dr. Anselm Franz, creator of the WWII Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet, the AGT1500 is currently produced by Honeywell Aerospace. To view Honeywell's Turboshaft chart comparison, click here.
